{"id":37050,"date":"2014-07-23T17:45:57","date_gmt":"2014-07-23T21:45:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.worlddrivecoaching.com\/?p=37050"},"modified":"2014-07-23T17:45:57","modified_gmt":"2014-07-23T21:45:57","slug":"losing50part3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.worlddrivecoaching.com\/moveforward\/losing50part3\/","title":{"rendered":"The Tools &#8211; Losing 50 Part 3"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.worlddrivecoaching.com\/moveforward\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/tom_Bathroom_scale.png\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft  wp-image-56552\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.worlddrivecoaching.com\/moveforward\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/tom_Bathroom_scale.png?resize=131%2C131\" alt=\"Losing 50\" width=\"131\" height=\"131\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.worlddrivecoaching.com\/moveforward\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/tom_Bathroom_scale.png?resize=300%2C300&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.worlddrivecoaching.com\/moveforward\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/tom_Bathroom_scale.png?resize=150%2C150&amp;ssl=1 150w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.worlddrivecoaching.com\/moveforward\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/tom_Bathroom_scale.png?resize=1022%2C1024&amp;ssl=1 1022w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.worlddrivecoaching.com\/moveforward\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/tom_Bathroom_scale.png?w=2000 2000w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 131px) 100vw, 131px\" \/><\/a>So what changed on March 21?\u00a0 The tools were brought into play that would help change the way I worked out.\u00a0 They didn&#8217;t all come at once but that was the day things started to change.<\/p>\n<h2><strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">The Gym<\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The first tool was the gym.\u00a0 March 21 was my first day there on a week trial membership.\u00a0 I really enjoyed the machines and enjoyed the atmosphere.\u00a0 By the end of the week I was hooked on what I could accomplish there.\u00a0 It wasn&#8217;t that I couldn&#8217;t get a workout at home but being with a group of people who are striving for the same thing is a great motivator.\u00a0 As Emerson said, in a much more poetic way, you are what you put into your mind and the places you put yourself.\u00a0 The gym was where my transformation would take shape.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cA man is known by the books he reads, by the company he keeps, by the praise he gives, by his dress, by his tastes, by his distastes, by the stories he tells, by his gait, by the notion of his eye, by the look of his house, of his chamber; for nothing on earth is solitary but every thing hath affinities infinite.\u201d Ralph Waldo Emerson<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I know many people feel like going to the gym is a chore.\u00a0 I know the feeling myself.\u00a0 There are days where I have to push myself to go.\u00a0 But, the feeling that comes after a great workout, seeing the results on a scale, or the accomplishment of a non-scale victory is worth it.\u00a0 So is the knowing that I am doing things now to make the lives of my whole family better for the future by conditioning myself and making my body stronger.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-68816\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.worlddrivecoaching.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Body-Pump.jpg?resize=369%2C129\" alt=\"Body Pump\" width=\"369\" height=\"129\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">On April 12 my next tool would come along.\u00a0 A group of us decided to give <a title=\"BODYPUMP\" href=\"http:\/\/www.lesmills.com\/workouts\/fitness-classes\/bodypump\/\" target=\"_blank\">BODYPUMP<\/a> a try.\u00a0 This was my first look into group fitness. Let me say up front &#8211; <em>nobody cares what you do or look like in class<\/em>.\u00a0 That seems to be what keeps people from walking in the room and the others in there are coming to class for many of the same reasons you are.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">BODYPUMP has helped me lean down, build up muscle, and lose weight.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-68821\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.worlddrivecoaching.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/Zumba.jpg?resize=337%2C129\" alt=\"Zumba\" width=\"337\" height=\"129\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Later in April I would finally walk into a <a title=\"Zumba\" href=\"http:\/\/www.zumba.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Zumba <\/a>class.\u00a0 My wife had tried for months to get me to give it a go and I just wouldn&#8217;t budge.\u00a0 After some teaching of the moves at home I went to class where a blast was had!\u00a0 I really enjoy Zumba and all of the people in there.\u00a0 Your instructor can really make or break class and ours is phenomenal.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-68824\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.worlddrivecoaching.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/fitbit.jpg?resize=392%2C129\" alt=\"fitbit\" width=\"392\" height=\"129\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">There are many activity trackers on the market today.\u00a0 You wear these throughout the day and then sync them with your computer or phone. \u00a0 They will give you some insight into your activity for the day.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">I decided to give <a title=\"fitbit\" href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/s\/?_encoding=UTF8&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=390957&amp;field-keywords=fitbit&amp;linkCode=ur2&amp;tag=worlddrive-20&amp;url=search-alias%3Daps&amp;linkId=I6VLKQGTNRSETF6W\" target=\"_blank\">fitbit <\/a>a try after some research.\u00a0 While there are graphs and other data that you can use with it my main reason for wearing one was to see how many steps I was taking during the day.\u00a0 It helped me to build the amount of activity I was doing.\u00a0 I could see when I had not walked enough and needed to get out of the chair.\u00a0 fitbit helped to keep my mind on being active instead of sedentary which was a great motivator.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-68829\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.worlddrivecoaching.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/My-Fitness-Pal.jpg?resize=387%2C129\" alt=\"MyFitnessPal\" width=\"387\" height=\"129\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">I know I know.\u00a0 Calories counting sucks.\u00a0 But, it worked wonders for me doing it.\u00a0 <a title=\"myfitnesspal\" href=\"http:\/\/www.myfitnesspal.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">myfitnesspal <\/a>allows you to scan packages and add the counts with a few clicks.\u00a0 While it isn&#8217;t always accurate it isn&#8217;t far off.\u00a0 99% of the time the calories match what the package says and you are good to go.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">When you setup your account you put in how much you want to lose and in what amount of time.\u00a0 From there it gives you how many calories you can eat in a day and lose the weight you are wanting by your goal date.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The app also syncs with your fitbit data so you get credit for the extra activity you do.\u00a0 If you do an hour of Zumba you might, for example, get 300 extra calories for the day but still be heading to your goal\u00a0 because it factors in your activity, your calorie count, how many calories you are allotted per day and the approximate amount of calories you lost due to your increased activity.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Those are the tools that I have used in my weight loss journey with success.\u00a0 Tools are only half the help though!\u00a0 Next up we will meet the players in the game that helped tremendously&#8230;<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>Have you missed any of the series?
