{"id":1122,"date":"2013-05-15T17:30:03","date_gmt":"2013-05-15T21:30:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.worlddrivecoaching.com\/?p=1122"},"modified":"2013-05-15T17:30:03","modified_gmt":"2013-05-15T21:30:03","slug":"go-first","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.worlddrivecoaching.com\/moveforward\/go-first\/","title":{"rendered":"Go First"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-1124\" alt=\"Jon Acuff\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.worlddrivecoaching.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/Jon-Acuff.jpg?resize=300%2C300\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" \/>On a recent <a title=\"EntreLeadership Podcast with Jon Acuff Interview\" href=\"http:\/\/www.podtrac.com\/pts\/redirect.mp3\/a1611.g.akamai.net\/f\/1611\/26342\/9h\/dramsey.download.akamai.com\/23572\/audio\/mp3\/entreleadership\/podcast\/entreleadership-20130422.mp3\" target=\"_blank\">EntreLeadership Podcast<\/a> Jon Acuff mentioned something I really liked and wanted to share.\u00a0 He mentioned that as a leader you need to take the first step and allow everyone else to go second.\u00a0 Why?\u00a0 Because it is easier to go second and more people will follow.<\/p>\n<p>This is something all leaders need to understand.\u00a0 To get people to follow you have to go first (sounds obvious, right?).\u00a0 But so many &#8220;leaders&#8221; want to tell people where to go instead of leading them where to go.\u00a0 People are more likely to follow your actions.<\/p>\n<p>Imagine working in a fast food business and you see your manager empty the trash every night while you are doing the final cleaning.\u00a0 He doesn&#8217;t call attention to it but you notice that he is doing it.\u00a0 One night he is swamped with office work and without considering anything you simply go and take out the trash without being asked.\u00a0 Why did you do this?\u00a0 Some will answer because it is their job.\u00a0 I expect many others will say it is because their LEADER does it all the time they were willing to help him out without being asked.<\/p>\n<p>There was an excellent TED Talk by Derek Sivers on &#8220;How to Start a Movement&#8221; where one person is in a park and starts dancing (the leader) which made it easier for a second person, then more, and more, and more until they had a group.\u00a0 The hardest thing was not the dancing but being the first one to dance.<\/p>\n<p>If you want to be a leader then do it first.<\/p>\n<p><center><br \/>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Derek Sivers: How to start a movement\" src=\"https:\/\/embed.ted.com\/talks\/derek_sivers_how_to_start_a_movement\" sandbox=\"allow-popups allow-scripts allow-same-origin\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" webkitAllowFullScreen mozallowfullscreen allowFullScreen><\/iframe><\/center><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On a recent EntreLeadership Podcast Jon Acuff mentioned something I really liked and wanted to share.\u00a0 He mentioned that as a leader you need to take the first step and allow everyone else to go second.\u00a0 Why?\u00a0 Because it is easier to go second and more people will follow.
