Books of 2013

Books on Shelves

It is said most people read less than one non-fiction book per year.  Last year I read 24 after a challenge from Jon Acuff and his Finish Year challenge.  After that I set a goal for 40 in 2013 and managed to do over 50!  I want to challenge everyone out there to read just one book a month for 2014 and make it an education year for you!

Here is a list of books that I completed over the course of 2013. Nothing is here for endorsement.   You can check out the 2012 books here.

Review: Play Your Bigger Game

Play Your Bigger GamePlay Your Bigger Game by Rick Tamlyn is an interesting way to look at life as a game.  The publisher says it “was created to counteract that self-limiting, fear-based approach to life.”  If you are living your life in this manner then I think this book is for you.

What the book describes is a game board containing nine squares.  Within these squares are different ways to categorize the situation you are in (or season of life if you will).  This gives a person a go to method for interrupting their limiting beliefs/patterns.  Instead of saying “my life is falling apart” you can take a quick look at the game board and decide to say “I need to assess this and check with my friends.”  Doing this helps give clarity and helps you see things as they really are.

While some things feel repetitive in the text I think a person can learn a lot from reading it.  I would recommend it to anyone who wants to keep better track of where they are in life.  This lets you see where you are and decide your next move into the future.

Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas

Christmas DecorationMerry Christmas and Happy Holidays from us to you! See you next year!

Spirit of Giving

With Christmas being next week I wanted to share with you one of the best random acts of kindness I have had the pleasure of viewing this year. I think this is a wonderful video and I would love it if each person who saw this could go out and do one act of kindness for someone else in the next week. Do anything but keep spreading the spirit of the season.

I hope you have a great week and enjoy the video:

Did You Make Progress?

2013 is just about to wrap up in a few weeks. I think it was a most excellent year full of some life accomplishments that I am thrilled to have brought to fruition with help of many others.  Now, my question to you is, did you make progress?

Making progress isn’t about completing a goal.  Taking a few steps toward a goal, a want, a dream or desire is making progress.  Two steps forward and one back is still a step ahead of the game.  Don’t be afraid of the one back.  The one back isn’t a failure; just a course correction.

Change is going to happen all the time whether you want it to or not.  Progress, on the other hand, is something you have to work towards.  I hope you made progress this year and are ready to do amazing things next year.

What kind of progress did you make in 2013?

Make Someone Smile

Make someone smile today. Go out into the world and make at least one person smile everyday.

If work with customers on a regular basis I want to plus the challenge.  Make one person smile in your outside work interactions.  Make one person smile that is a coworker.  And, lastly, try to make every customer you come in contact with smile.

Let us all light up the world today with smiles!

Wishes to You for a Happy Thanksgiving

I wanted to take a moment this week to be thankful to those of you who come here to read my blogs week after week.  I am truly thankful and appreciate each of you.

I hope everyone has a great day tomorrow and remember – be thankful for one thing no matter what you are going through in life.  One thing can make the difference and help you see the sunshine in a gloomy time.

Celebrate the Small Steps

One small step.  We all know those words.  From science class in school to soundbites on TV, most of us have heard those three words dozens of times.  Although we have heard them I do not think enough people live them.

Each step you take to your ultimate dream should be celebrated.  It is a victory that puts you just a little closer to where you want to be.  Even something most people would deem as a failure should be celebrated if it made you go in another direction.  Why?  It gave you a directional change which helps lead you to your goals.  You cannot reach your goal if you are going down the wrong path and “failures” are what tell us something isn’t right.

Take some time at the end of every day and celebrate every victory you had that day.  Doesn’t matter how small you think they are – they all count.

One small step to change your life.  One small step to live your dreams.  One small step is all it takes to begin.  One small step.

Random Acts Journal

In The End Only Kindness Matters

It is a time for thanks and with that in mind we are coming up on the season of kindness. A time when people generally are more giving of their money, resources, and time. However, we often forget about the numerous acts if kindness around us daily.

How often do we take for granted something as simple as another driver letting us in front of them when we are trying to get into a street? This, in its truest form, is an act if kindness. They didn’t have to let you through but they took a moment to do so anyway.

Think about these everyday acts of kindness. Get a small notebook from the dollar store and carry it with you for just seven days. Each time you witness something nice being done whether for you or another person write it in your notebook. At the end if the week tally up your number. I think you will be presently surprised by just how high the number is.

Challenge: Whatever number you ended up with I want to challenge you to do the same number of random acts of kindness over the next 30 days. These can be simple gestures of saying hi to a stranger or buying someone’s meal in line behind you. Change the world one kind act at a time.

Catch the reference in the title?  Yep, you rock!

Anyway, I wanted to write a quick blog about something I recently found.  It is called EFT, Emotional Freedom Techniques, or, more currently, tapping.  It is a concept that has been around for about 20 years and has recently gained some popularity.

In tapping, you tap on your meridian points to help alleviate pain and stress.  I will tell you up front it feels a little strange to even try this at first.  However, the more research I have done the more I find people who have benefited from the technique.

I have included a video below that shows you how to do it.  Watch the video, research, and determine if this is something for you.  You need to determine for yourself if you will benefit.  I wanted to put it out there for my tribe because of the benefit I have found people getting from it.

If you give it a shot let me know in the comments below what you think.  I will add it to my ongoing research.
